The Night Valkyrie: an original costume concept created to wear at the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball in 2015. Above Left: at LOJ 2015. Above Right: Photo by Lauren Elisabeth Photography, Hair/MUA Lillian Vince.
For this design, I envisioned a floor length sequin skirt with organic embroidered textures reminiscent of galaxies and nebulas. To create depth within the "space" of the skirt, I sewed in custom LED lighting, created and programmed by Timothy Lamb. He programmed a random sequence where the LEDs or "stars" would pulse and shift in color (through white, purple, and blue). Above Left: photo by Sonny Meas. Center: at LOJ 2015. The top was sewn in midnight blue stretch velvet and scale maille layered over the bust and front hem. I learned to weave scale maille for this project and used black, silver, blue, and transparent scales to create a gradient look to match the texture of the skirt. For the headpiece, I wanted a transparent and light version of the traditional winged valkyrie helm. I used wire, silver and transparent scales, and blue rings to create a lightweight winged piece that is anchored with a pair of combs. Above: photo by Sonny Meas.
